At Sussman Family Law, our goal is to guide our clients through all types of family law matters with a thorough and common sense approach.

Sussman Family Law focuses exclusively on marital, relationship, and family law matters. Stephanie specializes in all types of cases involving everything from child custody and other child related issues to complex financial matters. When necessary, she works closely with other professionals, such as accountants, financial advisors, appraisers, business valuators, psychologists, and other medical professionals, to ensure that all issues are comprehensively and expertly addressed.

While she seeks to resolve all of her cases through mediation, Stephanie is highly experienced in bringing cases to trial. Stephanie also prepares prenuptial agreements, postnuptial agreements, cohabitation agreements, and handles appeals of family law matters.

Stephanie was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, graduating from Stanton High School. Stephanie completed undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Sociology at the University of Georgia, follow by a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology at the University of North Florida. While obtaining her Masters Degree, Stephanie worked as a counseling intern for two substance abuse treatment centers in Jacksonville.

After completing her Masters Degree, she decided to pursue a law degree. She completed her Juris Doctorate with honors at Florida Coastal School of Law. She graduated with a Family Law Certificate, which was earned by focusing her law school curriculum on specialized family law course work. While at Florida Coastal, Stephanie was an active member of the Mock Trial team, competing in multiple national competitions. She was also a staff editor for the Law Review and served as a teaching and research assistant for multiple professors. Stephanie’s interest in family law developed and grew while working as a law clerk for a family law firm in Jacksonville during her second and third years of law school.

Stephanie began her career with a family law firm in Naples, Florida. This position provided her with the unique opportunity to work on high asset, high income, and complex cases immediately upon beginning her law career. While in Naples, she authored two articles for the Florida Bar Journal, “Appellate Court Trends in Permanent Alimony for “Gray Area” Divorces: 1997 – 2007” in April 2008 and “Appellate Court Trends in Rehabilitative Alimony: 10 Years Later”.

She returned to Jacksonville in 2010 and went to work at Bledsoe, Jacobson, Schmidt, Wright & Wilkinson, which became Bledsoe, Jacobson, Schmidt, Wright & Sussman. She was a shareholder of the firm from 2014 through 2021. In addition to practicing family law during these years, Stephanie was often appointed by family law judges as a Guardian ad Litem and Social Investigator.

In 2021, Stephanie followed in the footsteps of both of her parents who were business owners and created Sussman Family Law. Her primary goal is to guide her clients through all types of family law matters with a thorough and common-sense approach.

Stephanie is member in Good Standing of the Florida Bar. She is also a Florida Supreme Court Certified Family Mediator. She is a member of the Family Law Sections of the American Bar Association, the Florida Bar, and the Jacksonville Bar Association and the Appellate Law Section of the Florida Bar. Community and professional service is important to Stephanie. She currently serves on the executive committee of the Florida Family Law American Inn of Court and is the President of the Board of Directors of the Family Nurturing Center of Florida. She provides pro bono representation through Jacksonville Area Legal Aid.

Stephanie was named a rising star in Family Law by Florida Super Lawyers in 2010. She has been AV Rated by Martindale since 2017, including acknowledgements for Client Ratings and Ethics.

About John Richardson

John Richardson was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of North Florida in 2011 and a Certification in Paralegalism from the University of North Florida’s Continuing Education Division in 2013.

John serves as Stephanie’s paralegal. They have worked together for more than eight years. John manages Stephanie’s calendar, maintains client files, and assists Stephanie in drafting pleadings and processing and maintaining discovery. John is an invaluable member of Stephanie’s team.

When John is not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife and son and their pets.

About Vickie Barnes

Vickie Barnes is Sussman Family Law’s office administrator. Vickie and Stephanie have worked together since Stephanie’s return to Jacksonville in 2010. Vickie is instrumental in keep all aspects of the office running smoothly. When Vickie is not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband, her children, and her grandchild.
